|Selected questions from our interview with captain Eva Lackerbauer:
How many players does your team have? How many of them are making their beach debut?
Our intention has always been to play the ECBU with a roster of 15 players. Due to many severe injuries it's likely that we will have to look for replacements. However, only 5 of us have already played a big international event (on beach or grass), so many will be making their beach debut.
Talk us through the selection process for your team.
After one tryout weekend, two tournaments and lots of meetings and emails, we were able to announce our roster. We tried to get a good mixture of experienced players and young and less experienced ones – with the focus on a greater number of the younger and less experienced ones. Also very important for us was the commitment of players to the team so we could prepare as much as possible together as a team. This is something that is still not standard in Austria.
Which teams are you looking forward to playing against the most in Spain and why?
We really would like to play against Switzerland and against Denmark. We have had really good games against both teams at warm up tournaments and we hope we can score some more points on them next time we meet.
Who do you think will be the big contenders for the title in your division?
Russia and Great Britain
What will make ECBU a success for you? And for your team?
If we manage to keep up our fighting spirit for the whole tournament and show some good ultimate – even if we don’t win a lot of games. And for sure the biggest success would be, if this AUT women’s team can form the basis for future Austrian women’s national teams – where all the best Austrian women play.|
